According to WFMJ, ShotSpotter technology led to the arrest of a man celebrating July Fourth in Youngstown, OH by firing a gun into the air. The system detected about 20 shots near Gaither Avenue around 9:30 a.m., prompting a swift police response. Officers found the suspect firing shots in his backyard and arrested him for discharging firearms within city limits. The man claimed he was celebrating the holiday like “everybody else,” but police collected 22 shell casings and confiscated his semi-automatic pistol as evidence.
