Suburb adopts ShotSpotter as Chicago phases out gunshot detection technology

July 30, 2024

FOX 32 Chicago reported on the implementation of ShotSpotter in Elmwood Park. The technology will go live in Elmwood Park in about a week, with officials citing its potential to save lives and improve police response times. Village President Angelo Saviano said the decision came in response to Chicago Mayor Johnson’s announcement to cancel the tech. Elmwood Park’s initial three-year contract will cost about $75,000 annually. “Our officers are rolling before people are calling in, we’re already on the way to that crime scene,” said Elmwood Park Police Chief Andrew Hock. “It helps save lives. Sometimes people get shot, they’re lying there, and nobody calls.”
