Sikeston Dept. of Public Safety shares impact of new ShotSpotter tech

March 20, 2024

WFLX-TV reported on the early success of ShotSpotter in Sikeston, MO. After going live at the end of February, the Department of Public Safety is crediting the system with a recent arrest. Responding to a ShotSpotter alert, officers were able to obtain a search warrant for a nearby home where they found a stolen AK-47. According to police, the suspect is a previously convicted felon and prohibited from having or owning a firearm. “We got that alert within 45 seconds to a minute. Officers were able to arrive on scene and basically preserve any evidence or locate any suspects or witnesses,” explained Captain Jon Broom. “Without that technology, it’s like searching for a needle in a haystack.”
