WEAR-TV reported on the ongoing search for a suspect involved in a drive-by shooting in Escambia County, Florida, while also discussing the effectiveness of ShotSpotter technology in the area. Sheriff Chip Simmons praised ShotSpotter as part of their real-time strategy, citing its success in identifying shootings over the past year. Tom Chittum, SVP of Forensic Services at SoundThinking was also interviewed and defended the technology’s 97% accuracy rate and its value in improving police response. According to Sheriff Simmons, while the system is expensive, it’s working as intended, and the county will evaluate its continued use when the current two-year contract expires
