New Bern Police Department to implement ShotSpotter technology

December 14, 2023

The City of New Bern passed a resolution on Tuesday that will give the police department ShotSpotter technology in crime response. The contract is for three years and will cost $150,000, with the first year paid through American Rescue Plan Act funding. New Bern Police Chief Patrick Gallagher pointed to its life-saving benefits. “God forbid somebody is injured and no one has called the police,” he said. “I cannot imagine how terrible that would make me feel if I was injured and incapacitated enough that I couldn’t call for help and knowing no one is coming.” The system is expected to go live by February.
