DATA FOR GOOD: How ShotSpotter technology can be used to target youth gun violence

According to the Gun Violence Archive, more than 97,000 people in 2021 were either killed or injured because of gun violence in the United States. Tom Chittum, SVP of Forensic Services at SoundThinking, discussed the effects on youth who were not struck by bullets, but nevertheless have been impacted by the rampant violence. “What we…know is that when you’re not the direct victim of gun violence, the indirect impact, the chronic exposure to criminal gunfire has long-lasting and severe consequences for our children, for our communities, and our nation,” he said.
