ABC7 reported that the Amarillo Police Department is considering deploying ShotSpotter in the city’s high-crime areas. Our own Tom Chittum was interviewed for the piece, identifying faster response times and precise alerts as some key benefits of the system. Amarillo P.D. Lt. Shane Chadwick also pointed to improved situational awareness. “[ShotSpotter] can tell us that the caliber of weapon…the rate of fire, how many different guns are being fired. … So it just gives us a good idea,” he said.
