St. Louis police announce plans to expand ShotSpotter technology

June 6, 2024

According to KMOV, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department has announced plans to expand its use of ShotSpotter gunshot detection technology to the Dutchtown and Mount Pleasant neighborhoods later this year. The department cited the system’s ability to pinpoint gunfire locations within 82 feet, enabling faster response times and evidence collection in areas suffering from high levels of gunfire but low citizen reporting. Between 2018-2021, around 86% of the 21,700 ShotSpotter gunfire alerts in St. Louis lacked a matching 911 call for service from residents.
