Better Operational Decisions Start with Field Agent

Public safety agencies have more data than ever and fewer people to work through it. Analysts field requests from patrol, investigators, command staff, and the community, each with unique needs, all from the same massive amount of data. The challenge isn’t collecting or accessing more data. The answers are in that data, but searching, reading, and summarizing it takes time that operational decision-making and investigations often don't have.

Public safety leaders have to make hundreds of operational decisions a day, and demand for answers often exceeds analyst capacity. A commander needs a briefing about violent crime in a specific area for a community meeting tomorrow. A supervisor wants to know where to deploy resources for events this weekend while ensuring areas with an uptick in assaults are also covered. A chief wants information on areas with the highest amount of gun crime to help place drones as part of a newly approved drone as first responder (DFR) program. A council member or resident demands an action plan to stop street takeovers or drag races that block community streets and endanger residents.  These decisions shape officer safety, resource deployment, investigations, and community trust, and data must justify them.

SafetySmart® Field Agent transforms the data into operational understanding – in time to make better decisions.

What Is SafetySmart Field Agent?

SafetySmart Field Agent is a conversational companion built for public safety. Users ask questions by voice or text, in plain language, and Field Agent retrieves, analyzes, summarizes, maps, charts, or exports the relevant data. Inside CrimeTracer™, that data includes connected records for a case, shift, or briefing.

·       Ask in plain language, get usable answers: Investigators, analysts, command staff, and patrol officers do not need to learn filters or build exports. They ask a question and review what comes back. A prompt like “I have a community meeting tonight; give me a weekly crime summary across all districts with year-over-year percentage change. Build me a report broken down by district.” starts the work in one step.

·       Maps, charts, and visualizations: Field Agent places incidents, points of interest, clusters, and color-coded layers on a map. It builds charts, tables, hotspot-style analyses, and heat maps, and breaks trends down by high-activity area, beat or district, and incident type. Agencies can also upload CSV, Shapefile, KML, GeoJSON, and JSON files for analysis and mapping, then export CSV files, map layers as GeoJSON and shapefiles, and charts as PNG or PDF.

·       Reports and briefs ready to present: Field Agent creates custom, presentation-ready reports and executive summaries, from crime trends by time and area to weekly summaries by district. A commander preparing for CompStat or a community meeting gets a brief without opening an analyst request.

·       Field Agent investigative skill in CrimeTracer: In CrimeTracer, Field Agent Investigate is a skill built for AI-assisted case investigations. It searches over 1 billion CJIS-compliant records and links people, vehicles, and locations across jurisdictions. Investigators review every result and choose what goes into the Case Folder, where evidence is centralized and can be shared securely with authorized partners.

·       Accountability and answers you can verify: Users can ask Field Agent where it pulled data from or which source it used for any answer, so investigators can verify a lead before acting on it. Your agency keeps control of its ShotSpotter and CrimeTracer data and decides who can access it. Field Agent conversations are not used to train the AI model.

SafetySmart Field Agent is now generally available to all ShotSpotter agencies, with CrimeTracer customers following later this year.

Existing ShotSpotter and CrimeTracer customers can contact their Customer Success Directors to learn more about getting Field Agent for their agency.

Agencies can start with what they already have. Spreadsheets, documents, reports, and other data can be uploaded to Field Agent for analysis. More data relevant to the questions means Field Agent can help answer them and surface more insights.

In addition to ShotSpotter®, Field Agent now includes CrimeTracer™ data, extending the information available for operational and investigative questions. CrimeTracer has access to 1+ billion records in a CJIS-compliant environment. In Field Agent, that data can surface relevant records across multiple jurisdictions, including relationships, links, and potential connections for an investigator to review.

Responsible AI Keeps Your Agency in Control

Field Agent is built to support trained personnel, not replace them. It speeds up searching, synthesis, and analysis. Its outputs are starting points for review. Authorized personnel retain interpretation, validation, and operational or investigative decisions.

Controls that back this up:

  • Role-based access. Each user sees only what they are authorized to view.
  • Purpose limitations. AI features cannot expand data access and can be disabled at any time.

Better Operational Decisions Start With Faster Answers

Every operational decision in public safety rests on information. Where to deploy this weekend. What to tell a community meeting tonight. Which lead an investigator pursues first. Public safety agencies will keep collecting more data, and the requests for answers will keep coming.

The agencies that lead in public safety will not be the ones that collect the most data. They will be the ones that turn it into understanding fastest, in time to act and with the confidence to stand behind every decision. Field Agent gives your team a way to get there without adding hours to anyone’s day.
