Situation
Between June 20–July 31, 2021, patrol officers responded to three different ShotSpotter activations in Glendale, AZ. 9MM casings were covered from each of those incidents, which were then entered into the NIBIN database and linked to each other by the NIBIN National Correlation and Training Center (NNCTC).
Then on August 3, 2021, a suspect fired a gun into an occupied house, and one day later there was another shooting incident in an occupied apartment. 9MM casings were recovered from both incidents and correlated with the previous three incidents by the NNCTC.
Results
Detectives reviewed traffic video from the Glendale Police Department Real Time Crime Center and identified the suspect vehicle. After procuring a search warrant and examining the suspect vehicle, an additional 9MM shell casing was located. This casing was linked to all 5 Glendale PD shootings by the NNCTC.

Amount of NIBIN leads thanks to NIBIN program and ShotSpotter
With the NIBIN correlation, investigators were able to identify the offender and make an arrest. Thanks to the ShotSpotter activations, investigators were able to collect more evidence and ultimately connect one perpetrator to five gun crimes.
ShotSpotter is an invaluable tool that enables us to respond to shooting incidents quickly, improving rates of evidence collection and restoring community safety in the process.
